“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” - James 4:8a

Throughout our lives with God, we will all experience times when He feels distant or doesn’t make sense.

And if we’re honest, there are also times when WE are the ones who distance ourselves from God.

Perhaps because of disappointment, hope lost, and dreams deferred…

Church hurt or betrayal from someone who was supposed to care about us…

Or the appeal of an easier, more pleasurable path in life…

We can feel complacent in our walk with God, where we don’t even want to pursue the spiritual life.

In these moments, I encourage you not to hide from God.

Instead, reach out.

Talk to Him about it.

Tell Him the truth—all of it. About your hurt. About your doubts.

Pray about how you don’t want to pray.

God promises to draw near to those who draw near to Him.

So, when you feel distant, don’t turn away.

Instead, trust that, like a loving Father, He is patiently waiting for you to take the first step back, so He can run to meet you there.
