The speed of the soul
“But he would withdraw to desolate places and pray.” - Luke 5:16
We live in a world that rewards speed.
Fast-paced work.
Immediate responses.
Quick results.
Instant gratification.
Life can become a constant cycle of producing, solving, achieving, and moving on to the next thing. The pressure to perform can feel relentless.
There’s always another email to answer, another goal to chase, another responsibility to carry in a world that moves faster than our souls.
No wonder so many men become disconnected from what we’re feeling, from the people in front of us, and from the quiet voice of God.
Jesus lived with enormous responsibility. Crowds pressed in on Him. Needs surrounded Him. Urgency was everywhere. And yet, Scripture tells us He often withdrew.
He stepped away from the noise to pray. To listen. To be with His Father.
If the Son of God made space to slow down, what makes us think we can afford not to?
When we slow down, we begin to notice things again—our thoughts, our motives, our fatigue, our gratitude. We become aware of where God is moving and where we may be striving unnecessarily.
You are not a machine. You are a man with a soul.
What would it look like to build small moments of stillness into your day to pause and reflect?
Where might God be inviting you to step back so you can hear Him more clearly?
