The allure of the easy chair
“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” - Mark 10:45
There’s nothing quite like coming home after a long day of work and sinking into your favorite chair. It’s called an “easy chair” for a reason—this is where stress and worry can melt away, where we can find respite at the end of a busy day.
There’s certainly nothing wrong with enjoying some “you” time. But we weren’t designed to live in the easy chair all the time.
You have been given the potential to make a difference in this world, and an authentic man looks for opportunities to serve others and be a part of solving some of the problems we have in our world.
Accepting responsibility is one of the things that separates a man from a boy.
But it’s so easy to get sidetracked by our own selfish desires and not have this on our radar. Sometimes we choose the easy way out. Other times, we become so busy and fill our lives with constant activities that we never have the time or energy to pursue other initiatives.
Jesus set a clear example for us in His 33 years on earth. He was always moving to where the need was, meeting people in their pain and loss and sickness and confusion. He was always serving and loving others.
There is nothing you can do in this life that will give you more meaning and more joy than when you do something to serve others.
Does your desire for comfort become a crutch that keeps you from fulfilling your purpose?
How can you use the gifts that God has given you to make a difference in the world?
