Hero worship
“Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.” - Ephesians 5:1
As children, it’s normal to feel a deep desire to be proud of our parents, to hold them up as the heroes and protectors we long for them to be.
That’s why it can be so disorienting when, whether as a child or an adult, we come face-to-face with our parents’ brokenness and realize they are human just like us.
It can leave us feeling disillusioned, like we’re all alone in the world. It can shake our sense of self, when our heroes and role models turn out to be imperfect.
The desire for someone to look up to and emulate never leaves us.
Thankfully, in Jesus, we have a hero who never changes and never fails us.
As the true and perfect man, He gives us a model for life that we can imitate with confidence, knowing He will never let us down.
Deep down, do you still long for a hero? For someone to come and make everything right in the world?
How does Jesus speak to that longing in your soul?
