“For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” - 1 Timothy 4:8

Like many guys, I love sports. I also enjoy the discipline required in the gym for athletes to be at their very best.

As someone who is involved in the fitness industry, I understand the joy of feeling strong and healthy and the sense of accomplishment that new fitness growth can bring.

And as great as that is, it still doesn’t compare to the joy of being spiritually healthy and whole.

But, like fitness, spiritual formation doesn’t happen to us accidentally. We can’t just call ourselves Christians or show up at church once a week and expect to see sustainable growth.

We need consistency, discipline, and action to become the men of God we were created to be.

Setting aside time to reflect on God’s truth, His love, what He’s doing in my heart, and His grace in my life, we can cultivate a continuous awareness of Jesus’s presence in our life. We can become more like Christ. We can become men who love others and show grace to others like Jesus does with us. We can have a renewed joy and peace in our life … gains that last into eternity.

What if we approached our spiritual fitness much like an athlete would approach their physical fitness?

How would setting time aside daily to reflect on God’s truth and love in your life impact your spiritual health and wholeness?
