Conquering your inner dragons
“But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.” - Ephesians 5:13
All men dream of being the hero—the warrior who can slay dragons and defeat the enemy.
As children, we play games where we fight invisible enemies out in the world.
As adults, we realize that many of our enemies are invisible, but they aren’t “out there”—they’re within us.
The dragons of insecurity, anxiety, guilt, and shame can incinerate our courage and sap our spirit the instant we begin to feel some victories in life.
Many men choose to protect themselves with armor, to hide behind a mask, to “toughen up” against these emotions…which eventually hardens us to all emotions.
But the counterintuitive truth is that we slay these dragons by facing them head-on.
When we are courageously vulnerable and honest with ourselves and others, it brings these dragons out of the cave and into the light, where they will be revealed for the posers they truly are.
What inner dragons are you fighting right now?
Is there a trusted friend you can share your struggles with, bringing them from darkness into the light?
