Bring your whole self to God
“For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.” - Galatians 5:17
Most of us have parts of ourselves we’re not proud of.
Perhaps you have a quick temper.
A strong inner critic.
Legalistic or attention-seeking or envious tendencies.
Some of these traits come from strategies we adopted to survive the painful parts of our stories.
Others come from our flesh, our sin nature.
They often keep us from doing the things we want to do—cropping up in our lives as stubborn compulsions and habits despite “knowing better.” For many of us, they are sources of shame.
But God is big enough to handle all of who you are.
He sees every life experience you’ve had—every scared, insecure, and sinful part of you—and wants to pour his healing love into your life.
And in Christ, he offers a path towards wholeness—life by the Spirit instead of the flesh, where all of who we are is transformed into more of who God is.
Do you feel safe bringing your whole, real self to God? Is there a part of your life you need to invite Him into today?
