“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” - James 5:16

It’s an old trope that men hate asking for directions.

But below the surface, this stereotype holds a layer of truth about men’s inner worlds and deepest fears:

  • Not knowing everything
  • Not being able to figure it out on our own
  • Feeling defeated
  • Admitting that we need help

Sadly, these tendencies can keep men from experiencing wholeness and freedom in Christ.

In the upside-down Kingdom of God:

  • Admitting that we don’t have it all together is a really important step toward maturity and wisdom.
  • We “win” by laying down our lives and putting others first.
  • Inviting others in is how we experience real healing and connection.

When and where do you notice the tendency to try to figure it all out on your own?

Are there ways you’re resistant to change—even changes you want to make—because it would feel like an admission of defeat?

Is there an area of your life where you need to ask someone you trust for help or direction?
