“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” - Proverbs 3:5

What do you do when life feels uncertain?

I often find myself just gripping tighter.

I start planning more.
Thinking more.
Trying to control outcomes more.

There are certainly places for all of those things.

But there’s something in us as men that believes if we can just work hard enough, think strategically enough, or prepare carefully enough, we can prevent pain and guarantee success.

But life has a way of humbling that illusion.

When life feels uncertain, our instinct is often to tighten our grip.

The tighter we hold on, the safer we think we’ll feel.

But clenched fists can make it difficult to receive anything new from God.

Sometimes spiritual maturity looks less like control and more like surrender.

Not passivity.
Not giving up responsibility.
But learning to trust God enough to loosen our grip on outcomes we can’t control.

This may feel scary because control can feel comforting.

But, eventually, life reminds us that we were never fully in control to begin with.

And strangely, that realization can become an invitation into peace. Into letting go and trusting God with more of the unknown.

Because trusting God means we no longer have to carry the impossible burden of holding everything together ourselves.

Where are you gripping too tightly right now?

What might it look like to live with a more open hand and deeper trust in God?
