“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given to him.” - James 1:5

Most men I know want to make good decisions.

We want to lead well. Provide well. Respond well. Choose well.

But sometimes the pressure to make a decision quickly can keep us from seeking wisdom carefully.

We feel the urgency. The deadline. The expectations. The fear of missing out. The desire to fix it, solve it, move on, and get everything settled.

And before we know it, we’ve made a decision from pressure instead of peace.

I’ve done that plenty of times.

I’ve confused speed with clarity.

I’ve mistaken decisiveness for wisdom.

I’ve moved forward because waiting felt uncomfortable, not because God was actually leading me forward.

There’s nothing wrong with taking action. But rushing and wisdom are not always the same thing.

Scripture reminds us that wisdom is something we can ask God for. That sounds simple, but it requires humility. It means admitting we don’t always see clearly. It means slowing down long enough to listen.

Sometimes wisdom comes through prayer.

Sometimes through Scripture.

Sometimes through the counsel of people who know us well.

Sometimes through the quiet check in our spirit that says, Not yet. Ask one more question.

As men, we don’t have to prove our strength by having instant answers. There is strength in pausing. Strength in listening. Strength in asking for help. Strength in waiting until the way forward becomes clearer.

God is generous with wisdom. But we often have to slow down enough to receive it.

Where are you feeling pressure to decide quickly right now?

Have you asked God for wisdom, or have you mostly been asking Him to bless what you already want to do?

Who is one wise person you could invite into the decision with you?
