“So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.” - Psalm 90:12

Not long ago, I caught myself half-listening during a conversation with someone I care about.

They were talking, and I was nodding along, but mentally I was somewhere else—thinking about work, my schedule, the next thing I needed to do.

I was reminded how easy it is to physically be somewhere while emotionally and mentally being completely absent.

A lot of us live this way more often than we realize.

It’s easy to spend life somewhere other than where we are.

Thinking about tomorrow.
Replaying yesterday.
Worrying about what’s next.
Scrolling past the people sitting right in front of us.

It’s so easy to move through life distracted, rushed, and mentally elsewhere.

But the life we long for, the really good stuff, is often found in the moments we’re tempted to overlook.

The conversation with your child at dinner.
The quiet walk with your wife.
The friend who needs someone to really listen.
The few still moments you have with yourself before the day begins.

Presence is becoming increasingly rare in our world.

And because it’s rare, it’s deeply valuable.

Jesus was remarkably present with people.
Even with crowds around Him and endless needs pressing in, He stopped.
He listened.
He noticed.
He made people feel seen.

It’s so tempting to just focus on providing, solving, and accomplishing.

But some of the most meaningful things we can offer others are our attention, our presence, and our care.

Where have you been distracted or emotionally absent lately?

What would it look like to become more fully present with God, yourself, and the people you love today?
